Put the futon outside on the lawn on a beautifull summer's day to get all the accumulated moist out. Also roll it up from time to time : this will help to evacuate moisture and will benefit the elasticity of the layers of cotton.

For these reasons it is better to put 2 somewhat thinner futons on top of each other instead of one really thick one. The bigger one can not be lifted or rolled that easily and will be saturated more quickly, will be worn out sooner and will have to be replaced earlier on.
